Minimalist Tiki

If you want to get started making tiki drinks, this is the best place to start. Smugglers cove is great, but the approach is too complex. I feel that this book provides a better entry into the drinks by looking at the most common ingredients. And the approach to rums is clearer as well, classifying based on taste and not manufacturing technique. All of which leads to a better understanding of what tiki is.

I had a little bit of tiki knowledge beforehand, and this book has expanded my tiki horizons immensely. PIetrek and Smith do a great job of making some of the more daunting drinks approachable, and they throw in a ton of modern and new concoctions. This is a great book for the novice, and I'd say it is even better for the home mixologist who already has orgeat, Peychaud bitters, pimento dram, and a pearl diver glass on hand.

The book is beautiful and colorful and insightful. I'm enjoying the read and cocktails I've tried so far.
