Minimalist Tiki is a modern, no-nonsense guide to mastering tiki cocktails without turning your home bar into a rum warehouse. Designed for curious drinkers and serious cocktail nerds alike, this book breaks tiki down to its essential building blocks—ingredients, techniques, and smart substitutions—so you can make exceptional drinks with intention rather than excess.

Structured as a fun, four-part expedition, Minimalist Tiki teaches you how to think like a tiki bartender. Instead of chasing obscure bottles and one-use syrups, you’ll learn how a carefully chosen core set of rums, modifiers, and fresh ingredients can unlock a surprisingly wide range of classic and modern tiki drinks.

The book includes 130 recipes from today’s leading tiki bars and bartenders, including Pagan Idol, Dirty Dick, and Inferno Room, along with respected voices such as Marie King, Doc Parks, and Kevin Beary. These original recipes reflect the current global revival of tiki, blending historical roots with modern technique and creativity.

More About The Book

At its heart is the most comprehensive exploration of rum ever published in a cocktail book. Styles, production methods, and flavor profiles are explained clearly and practically, empowering you to understand why a rum works in a recipe—not just which one was used. This knowledge-first approach makes recipe improvisation intuitive and rewarding.

Beyond recipes, Minimalist Tiki delivers practical advice on bar equipment, advanced garnish techniques, and how to elevate presentation without unnecessary complexity. The result is a tiki cocktail book that’s focused, deeply informative, and genuinely usable—proof that tiki mastery isn’t about having everything, but about understanding what matters most.

The only Tiki cocktail book you need

If you just want to learn how to make great Tiki cocktails then this is the book for you! The vast selection of rums and other ingredients is covered but there are also details on how to do a lot with only a little. Of all of the tiki books I have read this is the one I refer to the most.

Rumbear
A Tiki Essential

This has everything except classic recipes. It has riffs on them and plenty of originals, a rum primer and recommendations even recipes for syrups and liqueurs. or a whole chapter on teaching you how to improvise your own drinks? Well this is all that and more. docking a point because this book is too big to be a paperback and I already have a ripped page. Also some pages aren't number and that makes quickly finding a page difficult.

Excellent book.

Minimalist Tiki accomplishes what it sets out to do in an enjoyable, light read. The information is clearly presented, the pictures are great, as are the recipes. It's been a great introduction into the world of Tiki for me.
